Qualified Therapist in Frederick, MD, with a Trauma-Informed Therapeutic Approach

EMDR and Trauma-Focused Therapy

As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, my therapeutic approach for Frederick, MD, clients involves eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and other trauma-informed practices. EMDR helps people heal from symptoms of emotional distress resulting from significant trauma, a condition referred to as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Studies show that EMDR can quickly accomplish what once took traditional therapy years to achieve. EMDR removes emotional blocks caused by trauma, offers symptomatic relief, and helps you heal and re-engage in work, life, and love.

Gottman Couples Therapy

The Gottman method is an evidence-based form of couples counseling that improves how couples communicate while promoting deeper understanding, empathy, awareness, and connectedness. I help couples identify and address the natural defenses that hinder communication and intimacy to restore the passion and love they once had.

In addition, I use emotion-focused therapies developed by Terry Real, Esther Perel, and Sue Johnson. My goal is to bring greater insight into the problems you and your partner are experiencing.

Neuroscience and Psychotherapy

It can be argued that to effectively provide couples and individual counseling, a psychotherapist must have a working knowledge of neurobiology and the brain. Neuroscience explains how and why psychological and emotional changes happen and which therapeutic approaches work best.

As changes occur during a client’s therapy sessions, the neural pathways in their brain start changing to accommodate a new way of behaving. Targeted change can become more effective when we work with the brain instead of against it. Clients are more likely to sustain positive habits when they understand the brain science behind their choices.

it has to be made, like bread; remade all the time, made new.”
